Calling
connection
Art is not a job. It's a calling.
...to the world and to ourselves.
Black Heron Arts was founded on the belief that the artist's ethos should be the foundation of meaningful cultural work; how artists engage with communities, how they tell stories, and how they use their platform to reflect or challenge the world around them. Supporting artists means more than funding projects; it means investing in voices guided by integrity, purpose, and a commitment to something larger than themselves. Our mission is to cultivate art that resonates deeply, builds connection, and carries lasting impact.
Mission
Black Heron Arts is a nonprofit arts and education collective serving Connecticut, dedicated to bringing artists together across disciplines to create, learn, and collaborate. Through workshops, salons, and guest-led experiences, we cultivate a shared creative space where narrative arts, music, theatre, and visual expression intersect. Our mission is to support the development of new work, foster meaningful exchange, and build a community where ideas are tested, expanded, and made braver in the presence of others.
Vision
We envision Black Heron Arts as a living creative refuge, where artists gather across disciplines to explore, take risks, and create work that might not emerge in isolation. Rooted in community and shaped by conversation, we aim to cultivate a space where art is not only produced, but shared, questioned, and experienced together. Over time, we see Black Heron growing into a vital cultural presence in Connecticut, a place where artists return, audiences engage deeply, and new ideas take hold and ripple outward.
